Dear Coach,
We are proud to announce the
dates for the Eighteenth Annual Grassroots Midwest Future Stars Showdown and
Shootout Basketball Tournament have been set for Friday, May 25, 2007, through
Sunday, May 27, 2007 in Columbus, Ohio.
The entry fee of $490.00 will be due in full between February 10, 2007 and May 12, 2007 to ensure your
team’s participation. There are many
good teams who want to attend. We will
take the first forty teams paid in each group.
There will be teams coming
from all over the country. We have
invited all the top national publications to attend this event. In the past scouts have seen players like
Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Correy Maggette, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Antoine Walker,
Michael Redd, Lamar Odom, Stephon Marbury, Chris Bosh, Larry Hughes, Kenyon
Martin and Joe Johnson. This tournament
has the richest tradition in the country on Memorial Day weekend.
All teams are guaranteed a
minimum of three games. We will use pool
play format with four teams per pool.
There will be two 16-minute halves and a three-minute overtime period,
if necessary. The clock will stop on
all blown whistles. All games will be
played under the National Federation High School Rules. The only exceptions to the federation rules
are we are allowing six fouls before a player is eliminated and each team has
two timeouts per half. In the
9and-under through 13-and-under age divisions, there will be two (2) 20-minute
halves with the clock stopping the last 2 minutes of each half.
The top 2 teams from each
pool will advance to play for the championship. Trophies will be given to the first and second place teams in
each age group. There will be individual
awards for each member of the first and second place teams in each age
group. The outstanding player in each
group will receive an MVP award. There
will also be an All-Tournament team for each age group.
Enclosed you will find a
listing of past tourney participants, motel/lodging information, tournament
flyer information, and the Team Roster form so scouting services will know who
your players are.
We look forward to seeing
your team participate in this great event.
Yours in Basketball,
Jerry “J.L.” Watson
